Le Collane di Med

Literary and artistic competition

III Edition

MEDiterranean MEDIA

Announces for the year 2000

A literary and artistic competition for women:

young writers, writers starting out,

photographers and painters.

The competition is for writers, photographers and painters less than 35 years old, and also for beginners (with no age limit) engaged in their first literary and artistic experience.

The competition is composed of four sessions:

short stories
(4-5 folders of 30 lines in English and Italian
narrative
(min 100 folders)
photos
(10 black and white or colour photos)
painting and/or drawings

(1-2 works)

The theme of the competition is:

"The future is behind us"

The decision to dedicate the previous editions to the theme of nomadism was linked to the centrality which embraced the dimensions of travel and encounter in the multicultural perspective opted for by MEDiterranean MEDIA.

Nomadism has made possible to focus not only in the experience of movement towards new realities but also an another, more intimate, interior dimension of personal dislocation, of change in the course of the lives of the women writers who have sent us their proposal.

Nomadism of the body and mind, journeys of awareness, radical changes and reflections. These, in substance are the themes touched by the writing projects of the numerous participants. The dimension of space, through movement in different places and of time, through the changes in one’s life, have been analysed and researched by the writers who intertwined them in their stories.

The theme of nomadism has helped them to question themselves about many questions that we believe crucial.

Today, however, the inevitable boardline implicit in the passage of the millennium imposes upon us a greater deepening of temporal dimension in a perspective that contemplates a double movement,

a look turned to the past and immediately afterwards, towards the future. Hanna Arendt’s words in this sense lead us, through her book’s title.

"The future is behind us"

So the choice to dedicate the third edition of the literary competition to this argument permits us to change, with a view to continuity compared to the journey undertaken.

To promote the work of search, of excavation, of rediscovery of memory conjugating it with a strong impetus toward the favour of the theme, so that we can make the dislocation in time understanding our roots thoroughly rediscovering fundamental arguments to bring to light.

We have to think how much the migration of the past can still

tell us about the present migratory phenomenon, about their charge of emotions and humanity.

Or, what the great mothers, found in many archeological sites scattered all around the world have yet to tell us about the relationship with the land and life.

Another new thing in this third edition is the decision to open the competition to other expressive forms.

Then "The future is behind us" is also addressed to women artists, photographers who regarding this argument would like to offer their contribution giving their interpretation to this theme.

To the competition winners MEDiterranean MEDIA will assure the publication, promotion and distribution of their work.

Besides, it will take care of the exhibition of the works.

The participant’s works will be inserted in the multimedial database: Med’s Stories.

Those interested should send by the 30th October 2000 four copies of their proposal, printed and with a magnetical support, except for the painters who can present single works.

It will also be necessary to enclose a curriculum vitae and the payment receipt of 10$ for CARIME of Cosenza bank account number 51/11298/42 ABI 3067 CAB 16202 ….
